About
This is the official, and I mean the only official blog for Billericay Cricket Club….
On here you will find news and events from the club, also from previous and past member news, and ofcourse, some interesting stories of just what goes on at the club….If you are not a member or new to BCC (thats the short term for the club) then here is a little more info…
A number of years ago, in 1996, when the sale of the old ground at Mountnessing Road enabled Billericay Cricket Club to move to a new ground in Blunts Wall Road. The ground provides two county size pitches, a magnificent clubhouse with indoor nets, good parking facilities and outdoor nets.
The pitches are maintained by a full-time groundsman provided by Essex County Cricket Club who also use the ground for County Second XI and junior County XI fixtures. Additionally the ground has been used for benefit matches (e.g Nasser Hussain, Mark Ilott and Peter Such) and, in the 2002 season, accommodated the prestigious Bunbury Festival (a national competition involving the best 15 year olds from which a number of England Test players have evolved).
On 21st June 2000 the Toby Howe Cricket Ground also accommodated a NatWest Trophy 3rd Round fixture between Warwickshire CCC and the Essex CB XI. This game featured Alan Donald, Nick Knight, Ashley Giles and Trevor Penney among others.
Billericay Cricket Club puts out five Saturday sides – each performing in their respective divisions of the Shepherd Neame Essex League. Occasionally the Club also puts out a Saturday 6th XI. The 5th and 6th elevens play their home fixtures at either Lake Meadows or the SELEC Ground at Basildon.
The top two elevens play their fixtures on the main (South) pitch and the third and fourth elevens play on the second (North) pitch.
