Billericay CC will be opening its doors this saturday 7th January to anyone who is interested in cricket, the club, or the clubs facilities in general. Anyone can come and have a look around the facilities we have here at BCC, including our impressive indoor nets, the outdoor nets, the actual grounds, and of course, the bar and function facilities…

There will be a lot going on, the bowling machine will be up and available for use, guided tours will be available and the bar will be open, providing refreshments for everyone. In addition, in the morning Terry Charrington will be present to offer some first class coaching tips. If you don’t know Terry Charrington – then you will want to know that he is one of Essex best coaches, having coached many first class cricket players, including Englands former captain and now Sky Sports presenter Nasser Hussain… NassWhat more could you ask for?

So if you are coming down to have a cheeky net, to grab some highly valuable coaching tips or to check out the factilities in general (in case you want to hire them), we look forward to seeing you. There will of course be a few of the club members on hand to chat to and socialise with – allowing you to get a real feel for the club and the people.

There will be an application form for club sponsorship available, and people on hand to talk you through just what that means – including available advertising space. There will also be membership application forms available and people on hand to talk to you about becoming a member of Billericay CC – as a colt, adult, vetran of as an associate…

We look forward to welcoming you to BCC

2012 Season? Already preparing…

Well you may have thought the season was over, and that the pitches at least would be put to bed, waiting for the 2012 season to get underway. However, you would be wrong. It’s a hive of activity over the club at the moment, with lots of work being carried out on both pitches, getting things in place, and ready for 2012…

So what’s going on….Well on Wednesday, the pitches were scarified, which for those of you not in the know, essentially means the removal of surface waste, nice….On Thursday, things really got going, with the pitches spiked,m seeded and loam sprean on the surface (don’t ask me what all that means).

Essex CCC groundsmen have been using a hell of a lot of materials, some of which include 240 bags of loam and 8 bags of grass seed. So who is this working party, well here is a list:

  • Phil Jeggo
  • Stuart Kerrison (Head Groundsman Essex CCC)
  • 3 other Essex CCC Groundstaff

It’s also worth noting that all the equipment used has also been provided by Essex CCC, who are simply doing a great job on the pitches…

In addition to this work, club members will be excited to hear that the North Pitch initially had 14 strips, but was increased to 17 strips to allow more netting. However, for 2012, this pitch is being increased further, and will include 20 strips, allowing for more colt games and more out door net sessions on the square. The south pitch will remain at 14 strips…

Please find some images below of some of the work that’s going on at BCC…

At the end of the season we have a Powerplay Curry Night, however, this year it will be not just for those members in the powerplay (6 hitting league), rather it will be the 1st annual curry night at the club, and is open to all members and their family.

The price should be around £5 for a curry, naan bread and pilau rice.

There is a choice of 6 currys and they are all chicken but if anybody has a problem with chicken then let Micheal Ownes know, he can get it with another meat. The choices are:
1. Madras (Fairly Hot)
2. Korma (Mild)
3. Tikka Massalla (Mild)
4. Bhuna (Medium)
5. Curry (Medium)
6. Vindaloo (Hot)

If you could email Mike Owens by Tuesday 6th if you would like to attend and your menu choice. (Or you can contact him on Facebook. If you do not have is email address, then request it on Facebook on the BillericayCricketClub page, or as a comment on this post).

It would be great if people bought partners and family along to get as many people down the club as possible. There will be a small presentation to the 6 hitting league winner at the end of the night.

Finally, this should also be a good send off for Mr Crasborn (our overseas) as he will have left these shores before the Presentation Evening.

See you all there….

As was the case last year we need to give a firm indication on the numbers we are expecting, so can you please let Stweart Rutland know by email (stewart_rutland@hotmail.com) if you are attending.

Hope to see you on the night

Well to help keep us all up to date in the cricket world, what’s going on at BCC and even how the games are going gor all the teams, we have joined twitter.

If you don’t know what twitter is, then all you really need to know is that it is a place where we can quickly share short bits of information. This makes it perfect for us to share how the teams are going on a Saturday.

You can follow BCC on twitter @billericay_cc

Most of us have noticed the bacon sarnies on offer before matches on saturday (I have seen a number of us nailing quite a few of these before a game), and have enjoyed the lunches at BCC, not to mention the evening food. Well its all down to M&A Catering.

This season M&A Catering have proven to be the preferred supplier of food to BCC, not just on a saturday, but also for social events and even international fixtures at BCC.

M&A Catering aren’t just for BCC though, so if you have an event, or need catering for your own cricket games / socials, then drop M&A Catering a line or contact them through this blog / the BCC website. Not only do they provide great food, but also some great entertainment options, including the hiring of a cracking bouncy castle (which isnt just for the kids you know).

Billericay Cricket Club are hosting the Matchplay semi-finals on Monday 15th August, and the Peter Coe semi-finals on the 22nd August. These are well attended events and provide some great Cricket to watch. In addition, the bar is always open so we can watch not just great cricket, but have a great social event (with a few drinks) too.

There should be food available (BBQ provided by M&A Catering), so drop in the club and enjoy some great cricket!

This years Presidents day is on Sunday the 24th July. There will be a 40 overs match, with some surprises, between members of the club who have in someway helped with the running of the club this season.

We strongly recommend that everyone who can, gets down the club for a fun day, relax, enjoy the cricket and have a couple of drinks in the bar.

The teams will be annouced around 12:30 with play starting around 13:00. The second session of play will start at 16:30 followed by drinks and some laughs back in the bar. There will also be a presentation around 20:30 with some words from the President, Eddy Thomson, and a BBQ running through the evening.

See you there….
